I was thrilled to be asked to photograph Rachel and Gav’s winter wedding which took place on the Isle of Wight at the end of November. I have known Rachel since she was very young and it was a great privilege to play a small part in her fabulous wedding day.
There had been high winds during the week before and it was touch and go whether the next big gust of wind would send the very large marquee into the air and onto the sea nearby! Luckily, there were no nasty surprises as Claremont Marquees did a very professional job and together with the careful eye of wedding planner, Anna MacDougall, the day went exactly to plan.
Rachel had four great bridesmaids, including her recently engaged sister in law to be, Lingzi. Everyone got ready at the family home set up on top of a hill overlooking the Solent. The whole house was filled with the most gorgeous white flowers and I particularly loved the tall vases of Amaryllis tied in simple bunches.
Message from Rachel…
Thank you SO much for everything you did yesterday! It was so seamless!! …. Wow! They are amazing!! I love the blog and all the pictures. Thank you so much, it’s so lovely to be able to look back and see the day captured so well!
The girls were totally relaxed during the preparations and even found time to nip downstairs to the marquee to try out the stage for later!
Rachel’s father and brothers, wore very smart navy morning suits and Rachel’s beautiful mother looked sensational in a dark Oscar de la Renta dress.
There were lots more beautiful white flowers decorating the little church at St Helens where Gav and the guests were starting to arrive
I love this little moment captured of Rachel at the church gate with her father, having a last check that they are ready to walk up the aisle.
Married at last! The new Mr & Mrs come down the aisle to the cheers of their friends …
A bitterly cold wind meant that the confetti was organised in extra quick time, with everyone looking forward to getting back to the house to start the party!
Rachel and Gav gave me a few minutes to take some lovely shots of just the two of them. There were some fabulous Autumn colours still to be found on the trees in the garden. They seemed to take on an even more golden hue as the sun was setting.
The guests enjoyed an abundant supply of champagne and canapes and a magician roamed the rooms providing his own brand of magic and surprises.
WOW! what an amazing set up in the marquee. Keeping to the theme of elegant white and green, there were tall arrangements of lilies in silver containers and matching silver place name holders.
After some excellent and moving speeches, the guests table hopped catching up with each other… until it was time for Rachel and Gav to start the dancing.
The dance floor was packed right through to the very dramatic entrance of band, the Ultra 90’s.
As I left, the hillside and house were lit up making a fabulous last shot!
